Sunset on the Noosa River |
The first drama was the mirror flying off on the highway on the way to Noosa but, fortunately, it didn't break and we were able to go back and resurrect it. The last thing we needed was seven years bad luck because of a broken mirror! Note to selves ... make sure it is put on properly in the first place.
Second note to self - avoid going to major tourist destinations during the Easter break. I've never seen so many caravans packed into a caravan park. It was a real exercise in reversing, but an even greater exercise in directing and, I regret to say, I came up short in that field. Eventually we manoeuvred onto the site. Third note to self, look into a reversing camera!
Everything went together smoothly and we were set up drinking coffee within about half an hour. For those out there thinking what about a glass of wine, it was only about 2.30pm. However, I had plenty of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc cooling in the fridge.
After a coffee to soothe our frazzled nerves, we enjoyed a leisurely walk along the Noosa River up to the shopping and café precinct of Gympie Terrace in Noosaville. There were thousands of people out enjoying the beautiful Noosa weather with both the foreshore and the river filled with people, dogs, fisherman and boats. Yet another note to self ..... come back during a quieter time of year!
That said, Noosaville is a really beautiful place to visit. We checked out a few restaurants that we wanted to eat in during our stay and collected an armful of brochures on things to do in the area - ferry, fishing, markets, kayaking as well as boat hire options.
I must say, we were a bit slack with cooking for ourselves with all the cafes and restaurants in walking distance to our caravan park. Worth a mention has to be Maisies seafood restaurant on Gympie Terrace. I had the most beautiful seafood platter served with a chilli sauce on a sizzling platter. I'd like to say I couldn't finish it but, being the lover of food that I am, I enjoyed it down to the very last prawn.
We were definitely spoilt for choice with restaurants along Gympie Terrace. We also enjoyed a fantastic Thai meal as well as a casual gourmet pizza. I promised myself that on our next trip I would at least use the stove in the caravan! We did use the Weber for a couple of breakfasts and one dinner!
We spent a day touring Tewantin and Noosa Heads. We got a day pass on the ferry and enjoyed a beautiful day cruising the Noosa River - enjoying coffee at the Marina and lunch at Noosa Heads. It was a pleasure wandering down Hastings Street not having to have found a car park. Usually we try to avoid Hastings Street because it is impossible to find anywhere to park. The ferry was an ideal solution to this.
We were in real tourist mode during the week and we ventured into Eumundi for the Wednesday market. I love a good market whether it is a "Farmer's Market" or a "Car Boot Sale" so I was in my element at the Eumundi Market. All of those things that I didn't know I needed until I saw them! Armed with new earrings, ornaments, happy pants and a skirt we finally hobbled to the car. That was definitely our exercise for the day so we felt justified in relaxing back at the van to enjoy some of that chilled Sauvignon Blanc.
The next day we visited the Buderim Ginger factory in Yandina where there were even more market-style shops to explore, including a huge selection of fudges. Can you have an addiction to markets????
We have been learning to take "selfies" as well otherwise we just end up with only one of us in all the photos. They are not always that successful - we need a little more "Gen Y" to get it right.
One of many "selfies" ....... |
A couple of "Giants" |
Unfortunately, our short holiday had to come to an end which meant having to pull down the awning. OMG - can you believe we stuffed it up again. We are definitely going to practice putting it up and down at least a dozen times before we venture out on our next trip. We are also going to try putting up the annex before our next trip.
Attack of the Killer Ducks ... they came out each afternoon at the caravan park. |
BABY STEPS .......
Great memories
