If we are around water, Steve always likes to try and have a fish. These pics include Thompson River, Longreach, Bribie Island, Woodgate and Iluka. In all honesty, I don't think we have ever eaten anything he has caught. Lucky for fish & chip shops!
It's such a relaxing thing to do and helps Steve to just stop and smell the roses (or bait). I don't mind fishing although I am yet to catch anything of note. I love to swim so often while Steve's fishing I will swim - even if it's bobbing around with a big hat and a pool noodle to cool off or boogie-boarding. You are never too old to boogie-board.
I love to read so am more than happy to relax on a beach or beside a river with a book.
Steve's always loved to fish, even as a kid and prefers to use light tackle for the challenge. He remembers his first fishing trip using a split cane rod at about 7 years old and has enjoyed it ever since.
Being an ex South Australian, he has caught plenty of big carp in the Murray River around Goolwa and Tommy Roughs and Garfish off the Edithburgh jetty. Another memorable spot is the Ledge at Salmon Beach on the Yorke Peninsular catching Australian Salmon.
We have a trip planned to South Australia in the next few weeks (waiting for the weather to cool down a little). Hopefully, we will get to do plenty more fishing and, as trainee grey nomads, I am hoping we will be eating plenty of fresh seafood. In fact, I am researching fish recipes and am thinking a Thai red fish curry.
Due to space, the fishing tackle is kept to a minimum and includes a couple of telescopic rods, Alpha Kustom Lures and some general hooks and sinkers. We normally buy fresh bait as needed or pump yabbies - depending on the target! It's always useful to chat to the local tackle shop if there's one there.
Generally, some of the best photo opportunities are fishing spots - at sunset or sunrise
